Willcon

What is Willcon?

Willcon is a convention for people who love science fiction, fantasy, horror, and gaming but do not love living in their parents' basements, swabbing pizza grease from their copious flesh folds, or arguing the literary merits of Pokemon cards.

Chris Harben puts it best when he says, "The best thing about science fiction fandom is its tolerance. The worst thing about science fiction fandom is its tolerance." Fandom doesn't have much room for those of us who express our love of the genre without driving to work in a Wookiee costume.

Willcon is our effort to change that.

What Do You Do at Willcon?

All sorts of things:

  • Tabletop gaming of all sorts, including Dungeons and Dragons, Call of Cthulhu, and Star Wars.
  • Console gaming on the XBOX 360 and Wii.
  • Friday Night Scary Movie, chosen either for genuine fright value or kitsch, depending upon our mood.
  • Saturday Night Miniatures Smackdown, during which Willcon attendees go head-to-head in arena combat...using miniatures, unfortunately.
  • Saturday Night Fireside Reading, during which we gather in the backyard around a bonfire and I read from my latest works.
  • Communal meals cooked (or burned) on our grill and/or in our spacious kitchen.
  • Many rounds of Mafia.

It's three days of mayhem, believe me. I lose year off the end of my life every time I run one.

For the daring, there are pictures.

Can I Come?

We're snobbish at Willcon to be sure, but we'll grudgingly invite additional people to join us. Contact me if you're interested.
