May 26, 2008: Memorializing

Like everyone else, I'm thinking gratefully today of the men and women who have served their country, perhaps suffering and even dying to preserve individual liberty.

I'm also thinking bitterly that our commander-in-chief is certainly not one of those people, despite his tough-guy pretensions to the contrary. Cowardly and craven, willing to send others to die for his semi-retarded ideals, he's not worthy of their sacrifice.

Every man who died in Bush's stead in Vietnam would make a better president than he is. So would those he's sent to Iraq.

I do have this consolation, however: there isn't a single president in our history who wouldn't gladly and soundly punch him in the face. Washington, sure. Jefferson, no doubt. Lincoln, of course. Teddy Roosevelt would probably drag him back to his feet for a second punch. FDR would knock him down with the wheelchair and then order Fala to piss on him while he lied crying on the ground. Kennedy would give him a good Irish sucker punch. Nixon might pay Liddy to do it, but there'd still be punching. Carter might offer an ineffectual slap, but there'd be a mark.

Even his old man, George H.W. Bush, would order him to go cut himself a switch.

So today, remember the honored sacrifices of greater men and women than our president.

Comments

Actually, Teddy Roosevelt would probably whisper "you sonuvabitch" and whack him with a very large, heavy stick.
