In the spirit of "In Search Of," I have the answer to the two questions you cited as emblematic of unsolved mysteries. As it happens, there are two answers to each question:
Why did Grandpa hate people from Pennsylvania? 1. Started by Quakers, and just kept getting weirder from there. 2. Philadelphia
Why did we elect GWB twice? 1. Al Gore 2. John Kerry
Also, just because I have all the answers... an earlier post asked who should be cast as Harlan Ellison in a movie. The answer: Dick Morris.
