May 21, 2008: He says a book came out last night. He says it sang to him.
(Name that movie for extra credit!)
The strangest thing happened to me last night. After hours of not falling asleep, I finally lapsed into the most vivid dream I've ever had--a complete boys' adventure novel from beginning to end.
Of course it is better than the one I'm working on: it isn't just about libraries and weird towns. Of course it is a big, flamboyant, money-minting concept perfect for a six-figure advance and a movie option. Of course it accomplishes everything I'm trying to say in the current novel but with more flair and fun and swashbuckling.
Damn. I'm 52,000 words into the current novel. My goal is to complete a draft by my thirty-fifth birthday on June 27th. I can write 1000 words a day on the current one to make it, or I can write 2000 words a day on the new one to make it.
Yikes. Quite a choice.
The current novel is all plotted out, broken into scenes in Scrivener and ready to enter and comb through. Would it keep? I guess it has for a year or more already.
All I know is that I'm finishing something before my birthday, by God.
Now the question is what!
