October 22, 2007: Best Destiny?

I've been reflecting recently upon the best uses of my talents for exaggerating, theorizing, purveying weirdness, pondering mystery, and generally being a blowhard. These aren't checkboxes at Monster.com, nor are they big bold words you want to put at the top of a resume.

It's clear that the best destiny for a person so addicted to words and epiphany as I am is writing, though it rarely pays the bills. Sigh.

So I thought I'd solicit my Internet peanut gallery for their opinions. After years of either knowing me personally, reading my blog, enduring my convention appearances, or some terrible combination of all three, what do you think would be the greatest use of my gifts in this world?

In other words, what should I be when I grow up, based on what you know of me? What do you imagine in your mind's eye as my most natural enterprise.

And no, screaming in the bottom of a wheat thresher doesn't count.

You can send notes via e-mail if your thoughts are private, or you can post here or at the LiveJournal version. Or, disgusted by my narcissism, you can do none of these and shake your head at my indecision.

1. Teacher (high school or college level)

2. Film director (not for porn though)

3. Book store owner

4. Big game hunter

5. Mercenary

OK, so really it's a top 3.

I agree that teaching might be a good match for you.

But "exaggerating, theorizing, purveying weirdness, pondering mystery, and generally being a blowhard" would also uniquely qualify you for a career in law or politics.

Replacement for Andy Rooney?

I'd tune in to see that.
